Poetry Prompt

Create a poem centered around a color.

Blue
Allison Kibler

You stand there alone.
You are grey,
as you try to blend in with the crowd.
Those eyes,
that burn in to me.

I blush bright red
like tulips in the spring.
Yet I run, run away,
keeping my true feelings
bottled up so that no one may know.

Afraid to tell you the truth
seeing that you feel so far away.
But you arn't;
sitting but feet away.

Now standing and
walking my way,
your sleeve brushes me.
And I wish that I could tell you,
make the world stop and listen to the truth.

I go home,
trying to forget the feelings,
only to find and empty house
with the exception of my dog,
which as fate would have it, reminds me of you.

The lack of conversation, connection, and concentration
is driving me insance.
My friends say
"tell him how you feel"
yeah I think
tell that guy in which I dream about
that I barely know,
tell him that I DO know him, for chance of previous connections.

Back when the trees turned golden
and the smell of fall was in the air.
We talked on the phone like friends often do.
But now we are no longer friends,
now I am terrified of you,
of your gaze, and your
voice and your presence.
You stand out in my crowd for now you are blue, the color in which I love.
