Poetry Prompt

Write a poem using Forgetting the Past as the title. Interpret it as you may but use the title as the center theme.

Forgetting the Past
Samatha Ciopo

She revisits her life once lived
as if she had been lost on an island for years.
Reconnecting with the civilzation, of her hometown.
She trades in the trees, the stars and moon
for her bed, her walls and hermetropolis lights, hastening
to ralley the excitment
that this city short-lives.

The returning point for them all;
the pond, their pond
now covered in leaves of time.
They were all brought to this pond once.
But her friends, will never return.
Death made sure of it.

She reunites her memories
of friends; Larry, Alaina, Tyler, Dustin, and Alex
and of moments such as paddle-boating
and the time Larry fell in,
or rather pushed in.

She gathers them all,
the time Tyler tried to make out with a chick in the park,
but Larry and Dustin went and tackled him.
When the boys tried to teach the girls how to play pool,
and Alaina hit Larry with the pool stick
in a very unfriendly spot.
They laughed that night, hard.

the time that Alex got Alcohol,
and Larry and Dustin were so Drunk,
that they went streaking down the middle of the street.
The girls locked the out.
It was really cold that night.

And their last memory together, at IHOP, where Larry
wrecked his car doing donuts in the parking lot.
These were the memories that this stupid spot brought back.
After her final return to this place,
that time, those moments,
she pulls off all her sadness, her love, her memories
and the past life, like a dead layer, and hoping to forget,
she throws it all into the pond,
And walks away.
