After publishing my third book, A writer's Life, I've been trying to get back to my roots, what it was that inspired me to start writing. When I first started I wanted to be a well renowned author. Well being a published author, and being a renowned author are two very different things. I thought I wanted the latter of the two but really, now that I've taken a step back and looked at my life the first one will do just fine. I enjoy my job, writing when I want, working for a magazine doing fun up beat pieces on how to help other clueless writers, a club I used to belong to.
So my job here at the magazine certainly keeps me busy. So I haven't had much time to work on any novels, but after publishing three, which are doing fairly well, I'm going to take a break. I manage the writersBlock section of the magazine. Because I ceratinly have gotten some terrible cases of writers block. One of my favorite activites, is to go to my idea box and pull out a phrase and just start writing from that. Most of the times I'll do some serious writing but really, its fun to just make it as silly as possible. I often try to come up with the shock factor. Lately I've been writing with an old ink pen. It makes the writing feel more geuiene. And its fun to draw out things, thats what I don't get to do if I'm working on my lap top, I can't just turn an ink splatter into a intrique image.
When Writing a Novel | Tuesday, December 9th, 2008
Publishing can be a real pain. The thing to remember is to keep your head on tight and take one problem at a time. And don't get discouraged if you get a few rejection letters. In my opinion is its better to be rejected than for the publishing company to have you make a million changes to your book. That book is a apart of you, if someone doesn't like it then they just arn't the right fit, its nothing personal towards you, just that they weren't ment to work with. Just take a deep breath, and then do what I do, make a copy of the letter, store it for your records and then shread the orginal. That always makes me feel much much better:D
